Drop-off and Pick-up of Children

Please use the school’s designated area when dropping-off or picking-up your child.   Parking is not permitted in this area. Do not leave your car unattended in this area. If you need to come into the school, you are to park your car in the parking lot. (Parents are not permitted to go directly to the classrooms when picking-up their children. They are to report to the main office and the child will be called down).

Bus Passes

The Lester B. Pearson School Board Transportation Department has informed us that they are responsible for transporting your youngsters to and from school (within busing zones) using your REGULAR address listed on the registration form.

It has been the practice in the past, WHENEVER POSSIBLE, to accommodate parents by helping to make arrangements to transport their youngsters to another address such as a babysitter or daycare centre when these arrangements were made on a PERMANENT or REGULAR basis.

Occasional changes can be made to regular bus arrangements for EMERGENCY SITUATIONS ONLY. Please call Mrs. Maxwell prior to 2:00 p.m.

EMERGENCIES = You will not be able to be at home to meet your child(ren).

Call the school and give us exact details of what instructions you wish to have relayed to your child.  We will see that your child follows your instructions.  This is to be used for EMERGENCIES ONLY.  We will not deliver messages of a non-emergency nature to your child.

PLEASE REMEMBER:

BUS PASSES OR CHANGES WILL NOT BE ISSUED TO STUDENTS WITHOUT A SIGNED NOTE FROM THE PARENT GIVING A VALID REASON. IN THE CASE OF A LAST MINUTE EMERGENCY, A PHONE CALL HAS TO BE MADE TO THE SCHOOL OFFICE NO LATER THAN 2:00 PM.YOU MUST ALSO NOTIFY DAYCARE AS WELL SHOULD YOUR CHILD NORMALLY ATTEND.

REMOVING YOUR CHILD FROM THE SCHOOL BUS AT THE END OF THE DAY

For the safety and security of all our students, please read attentively:

Unless a child has a written note that he will be picked up at the end of the school day, he/she will not be permitted to be removed from the bus. If the child had a note and forgot to show it, the parent must present him/herself to the Administration office to request special permission to have his/her child removed from the bus.

Parents ARE NOT permitted in the bus area.

Bus Safety Rules

  1. Be respectful to the driver and follow the driver’s instructions.

  2. Remain seated, facing forward at all times.

  3. Keep body parts and objects inside the bus, away from windows.

  4. Safety on the bus means avoiding horseplay and teasing.

  5. Refrain from eating, drinking and littering.

  6. Swearing and spitting are prohibited.

  7. Speak in a moderate volume without any yelling making excessive noise.

  8. Only bring your school bag and lunch box on the bus.

  9. Keep the center aisle free of objects or body parts at all times.

Bus privileges may be suspended after numerous reports and/or according to the severity of the incidents.

Bicycle Safety Rules

Bicycles only will be accepted. NO ROLLERBLADES, NO SKATE-BOARDS, NO SCOOTERS!

All students may ride their bicycles to school.

  • Children are not permitted to arrive earlier than 8:45 a.m.

  • All cyclists MUST WEAR A HELMET. Should your child arrive at school without a helmet, he/she will not be permitted to return home on his/her bike. The child will be put on the school bus and the parent will be responsible for coming to pick up the bicycle.

  • All bicycles must be locked at all times.

  • Bicycles must be “walked” onto school property. Students are not permitted to enter the “Bus Lane” with their bikes. Riders are to disembark their bike at the front of the school and walk on the sidewalk to the back of the school where the bike racks are kept.

  • At the end of the school day, students out at their bike before the final bell (3:30) will be permitted to leave before the buses. Should a student come out later, he/she will be held back on school grounds until traffic around the school has decreased.

  • Should your child not respect these rules, the privilege of biking may be taken away immediately.

These rules are designed for the safety of YOUR children. With parents driving children to the school, staff arriving, parents on their way to work, and school buses on the road, riding a bicycle to school is NOT like riding around during the holidays.
